MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a short-term evidence-based treatment for various mental health concerns, and most commonly used for anxiety and depression. This approach explores the links between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and clients learn to challenge and change unhelpful thinking, beliefs, and behaviours using a variety of strategies, in order to reduce unpleasant emotions and mood states.

Exposure therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), are also used in conjunction with CBT strategies to support individuals in overcoming anxiety and fear in response to specific situations, and with obsessive compulsive behaviours.

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

DBT is an evidenced-based treatment that was originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to treat Borderline Personality Disorder, but has since been adapted to treat various concerns. It can be very helpful for individuals struggling with mood swings, emotion dsyregulation, anger, relationship, identity and addiction issues.

The term “dialectic” refers to the synthesis or integration of opposites (e.g. Ying and Yang, acceptance and change) and clients are taught skills to help get “unstuck” from extremes. These core skills include:

    Mindfulness

    Distress Tolerance

    Emotion Regulation

    Interpersonal Effectiveness

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ARTherapy)

ARTherapy is an exciting form of psychotherapy with roots in various evidence-based treatments, and has been shown to achieve effective outcomes much more rapidly (1-5 sessions). It is most commonly used to treat anxiety, panic, trauma symptoms and Post-traumatic Stress, but can also be used to effectively treat various mental health concerns. Clients are in control the entire session, and relaxing eye movements are used to change the way in which negative images are stored in the brain.
